Introduction
The easiest way to set Quad9 on your entire network is via your router settings. If you'd prefer to set Quad9 on a single system, please follow the steps below to configure Linux Mint 20.3 (Cinnamon) to use Quad9.
Steps
From the Linux Mint desktop:
- Click on the Network icon on the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Click on Network Connections
- Click on your current, active network connection, either Wired connection if physically connected to your switch/router, or Wireless if using Wi-Fi.
- Click on the cog
- Navigate to the IPv4 Settings tab
- Change Method to Automatic (DHCP) addresses only
- DNS Servers: 9.9.9.9,149.112.112.112
- Click Save
If your network/computer support IPv6, it's also recommended to configure the Quad9 IPv6 addresses. If you're not sure if IPv6 is configured on your network, you can test that here: https://test-ipv6.com/
- Navigate to the IPv6 Settings tab
- Change Method to Automatic, addresses only
- DNS Servers: 2620:fe::fe,2620:fe::9
- Click Save
Disable and re-enable the Network adapter so Linux Mint will recognize the DNS server changes.
